Boldings report    27-9-16.

Fittingly the top catch of the week at Boldings Pools came in the popular Nick Gretton Memorial match held on Sunday, in which extra prizes were donated by Nick's parents John and Sue Gretton.

Dave Brown [Maver] already has a string of 'top weights' to his credit this year, and he added to that string with victory here when he posted 170-12-0 at Willows peg 14. The bream and barbel in the Willows Pool have put on weight in the past few months, and Dave demonstrated this by including samples of both species to 5lbs, together with carp to carp to 8lbs, in his haul. All of the fish came to caster, presented at 10 metres.

Second also came from the Willows when Andy Kyte [Middle Severn Angling] weighed in 135-15-0 at peg 7. Caster was the bait again, which Andy worked at 6 metres to attract carp to 7lbs and barbel to 5lbs. Third placed Kelvin Emlyn [Oakengates Ang Cent] was the top rod on the Larch Pool, netting 119-12-0 at peg 14 to finish just ahead of a tie for fourth between Graham Roberts and Ralph Johnson [both PI Boldings]. They each had 118-3-0, graham from Sycamore peg 21 and Ralph from Sycamore 24.

Prior to the memorial match the week started with a win for Stefan Davies [Shrewsbury] who used shallow pellet tactics to move ahead of the field in the Monday open. Peg 29 on the Oak produced 157-9-0 of carp to 6lbs to give Stef his victory.

Round at peg 1 on the end of the dam wall, Manchester visitor Dave Olly [Irlam] caught carp to 7lbs on banded pellet to claim second spot with 123-7-0. Mick Keene [ABC] was top of the list on the Willows Pool when he scaled 111-0-0 to take third overall at peg 17, and back on the Oak Mick Jameson [PI Bold] had 88-3-0 at peg 31 to complete the prize list.

Dave Olly jumped a place to first on Wednesday when his banded pellet at 5 metres and corn in the side put 121-0-0 of carp to 8lbs and barbel to 3lbs on the scales at peg 13 on the Sycamore.

Ralph Johnson [PI Bold] used shallow caster at 8 metres to bag 113-1-0 of carp to 8lbs and bream to 3lbs to finish second at Chestnut peg 21.

109-7-0 from Sycamore 22 handed third to Phil Shaw [PI Bold] and at Sycamore 30 Clive Wynn [Tricast Weston] scaled 99-14-0 in fourth.

Steve  Roberts [Oak Ang Cent] led the way in an all ton frame on Thursday, winning from Sycamore peg 24. His maggot and corn approach found carp, barbel and bream willing to have a go at each side of the peg, and carp to 9lbs, with bream and barbel to 3lbs combining to make up a 148-0-0 winning net.

Dave Brown warmed up for his week-end performance with a runner up placing. He was on Sycamore peg 45, and wasn't far behind with 141-10-0 of carp to 8lbs, caught on caster, alternating between fishing up in the water and presenting the bait on the deck. Down at the other end of the long bank on the Sycamore, at peg 31, Paul Evans [PI Bold] claimed third by weighing in 131-12-0, while an Oak pool best of 110-13-0 from peg 27 handed fourth to Tony Woolaston [Fatty's].

Sycamore pegs filled the frame on Saturday, with Jack O'Sullivan [Oak Ang Cent] heading the list. He was on peg 16 and worked with maggot and corn at 8 metres, alternated with presenting the bait in the margins to land 94-1-0, which was made up with carp to 6lbs and barbel to 3lbs.

Up at point peg 13 Keith Powell [PI Bold] opted for pellet and corn on the close in line to each side of the point and had carp to 7lbs with bream to 2lbs to end the day on 73-2-0. Harry Colley [PI Bold] picked up third with his 68-12-0 at peg 30, and Mick Jameson had his second fourth place of the week, finishing close behind Colley on 68-0-0 at peg 8.

Boldings report    21-9-16.

For the second Monday running Ralph Johnson [P I Boldings] took the honours in the first open of the week at Boldings Pools when he recorded the first part of a winning double for this week. Having won from the Beech last week, this time he was on the Oak Pool, where shallow fished caster accounted for 116-9-0 of carp to 6lbs.

Stefan  Davies [Shrewsbury] kept the winner under pressure all the way to the finish, and at the end was only one fish him with a weight of 111-3-0. He was on the Willows Pool, at peg 7, and caught carp to 7lbs and barbel to 4lbs using maggot and corn at 6 metres and down the side. Mick Keene [ABC] and Keith Powell [PI Bold] couldn't be separated and shared third place with 100-14-0 each. Mick took his catch at Oak peg 22 and Keith was on Willows 4.

Dave Brown [Maver] added to his long list of wins by pulling clear of the field in the Wednesday open, in which he was drawn on Beech peg 7. Shallow fished caster and maggot, alternated with close in tactics, brought a succession of carp to 7lbs sliding over the rim of the net to give final figures of 167-9-0.

Just round from the point at Beech 5 Paul Evans [PI Bold] offered caster at 5 metres to find carp to 7lbs and bream to 2lbs, which gave a 101-1-0 total for second place. Opposite the winner, at Beech 23 Steve Owen [Monkhall] scaled 81-6-0 for third, while the best weight from the Ash, 70-5-0 from peg 7, gave last Wednesdays winner Mick Jameson [PI Bold] fourth.

Carp to 7lbs and barbel to 3lbs made up the winning catch for Andy Williams [Vespe] on Thursday's open on the Sycamore Pool. Andy was on peg 24 and combined corn and maggot to net 80-14-0 to win a close encounter.

Graham Roberts [PI Bold] was three pegs along the bank at corner peg 27 and used caster and corn to bank 78-13-0 of carp to 8lbs. Paul Evans was in the prizes again, his 67-0-0 from peg 36 putting him in third, ahead of Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent] on 58-1-0 at peg 13.

Ralph Johnson completed his double for the week with victory in the Saturday open, and it was shallow caster tactics which secured success again. Carp to 7lbs and bream to 2lbs responded to the bait at peg 30 on the Sycamore, and at the end of the day Ralph slipped 100-2-0 of them onto the scales.

Terry Edwards [Swan Elite] opted for maggot and pellet at Sycamore 13 and had 84-10-0 of carp to 8lbs from close in to finish in second. Colin Reynolds moved up a place to take third with his 75-7-0 at Sycamore 47, with fourth going to a Chestnut best of 66-0-0 by Graham Roberts, who added to his Thursday runner up finish.

The top performance of the week came from Andy Kyte [Middle Severn Angling] on Sunday when he had the fish at corner peg 50 on the Sycamore lining up for his shallow fished caster and maggot to give the best weight of the week, 192-6-0. Carp to 9lbs featured, alongside barbel to 3lbs in a fine net.

Second came from the chestnut when Nige Clarke [Monkhall] recorded 149-8-0 at peg 21, a catch of carp to 8lbs and bream to 3lbs, which came to maggot and corn on the close in line. Third, at peg 33 on the Sycamore was Gareth Emlyn [Oakengates Ang Cent] who weighed 141-11-0, and back on the Chestnut Steve Roberts [Oak Ang Cent] had 120-12-0 for fourth at peg 32.

Boldings report    6-9-16.

Paul Evans [PI Boldings] set the standard for the week at Boldings Pools when he headed the Monday open card with the top weight of the week, 161-14-0. The big haul of carp to 7lbs and barbel to 3lbs came from peg 48 on the Sycamore, and fell to caster at 5 metres, rotated with close in tactics.

Last Mondays winner Harry Colley [PI Bold] was on peg 8 on the Chestnut, and finished not far behind the winner on 158-0-0. Harry used his favourite combination of corn, pellet and meat to attract carp to 8lbs, as well as barbel to 3lbs. Also on the Chestnut was third placed Andy Williams [Vespe] whose 123-14-0 came from peg 36. Kevin Melville [Shrewsbury] put his name on fourth by weighing 111-12-0 at Sycamore peg 8.

Andy Williams moved up two places on Wednesday to complete a hat trick of Wednesday wins. He was on peg 10 on the Chestnut this time, but the fish were much harder to tempt, and 57-14-0 was enough for a narrow victory. Carp to 7lbs and bream to 2lbs made up the catch, and came to maggot and corn fished to each side of the peg.

Steve Owen [Monkhall] worked maggot and caster to the island at Chestnut 23 to finish one fish behind with 56-2-0 of carp to 6lbs. Phil Foster [PI Bold] was an even closer third when he scaled 55-14-0 at peg 27, and things got even tighter when Mick Jameson [PI Bold] recorded 55-7-0 at peg 16.

Thursday saw another tight frame when Keith Powell [PI Bold] took the top spot from peg 8 on the Sycamore with a mix of carp and barbel weighing 83-12-0, which came to corn and pellet worked to each side of the peg.

Eric Bancroft [Rod & Gun] operated with paste close in at peg 3 on the Sycamore to pick off carp to 7lbs and bream to 3lbs, and ending the day on 78-12-0. Mick Jameson finished one place better than the previous day when his 77-9-0 from peg 39 put him in third, ahead of John Edwards [Oswestry] who had 60-6-0 at peg 16.

Dave Brown [Maver] had the clearest win of the week when he took the Saturday honours with 156-2-0 from peg 10 on the Chestnut. Caster, fished shallow at 5 metres and on the deck closer in had carp to 6lbs and bream to 3lb coming to the net at regular intervals for Dave.

Similar tactics worked for Ralph Johnson [PI Bold] at Chestnut 18, bringing in carp and barbel totaling 112-1-0. Colin Reynolds     [Bilston Ang Cent] was top man on the Sycamore and third overall with 101-9-0 from peg 8, and Pete Tolley [PI Bold] was a pound behind him on 100-9-0 at Sycamore 13.

Eric Bancroft added a week-end win to his midweek runner up when he claimed the coin on Sunday. Drawn on peg 36 on the Chestnut, Eric fed maggot and corn to each side of the peg for a haul of carp to 8lbs and bream to 3lbs which gave a final tally of 140-14-0.

At Chestnut peg 4 Gareth Emlyn [Oakengates Ang Cent] fished maggot to each side, and had carp, bream and barbel in his runner up 129-4-0. Third and fourth places were closely contested, with Scott Doodson [Maver] edging third with 126-10-0 at larch peg 19, while Andy Kyte [Middle Severn Angling] had 126-1-0 at Larch 22.
