Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  31-7-13.

The Thursday open at Boldings this week turned out to be a tremendous event, with no less than 11 weights of over 100lbs being taken to the scales.

Shane Rogers [Oakengates Angling Centre] built on his top weight of last week to head a match in which the average weight topped the ton mark. He was on peg 33 on the Sycamore and went for a maggot attack, feeding to each side of the peg at short range. The reward was a succession of carp up to 10lbs, interspersed with barbel to 3lbs, and by the time the finishing whistle sounded Shane had 163-6-0 to weigh for victory.

Over at Chestnut peg 23, last Thursdays winner John Wild [Stafford] matched the winner fish for fish, netting carp to 8lbs and bream to 3lbs, using pellet and paste. In the end, his slightly smaller stamp of fish left him 9lbs short of top spot on 154-8-0.

Josh Humphries [ABC] has become a frame regular at Boldings, and added two placings this week to the two he recorded last week. He took third on this match by recording 121-4-0 at Chestnut peg 4. Mick Jameson [PI Boldings] filled fourth spot by weighing 110-11-0 at Chestnut 32.

At the start of the week Dave Matson [Rod & Gun] extended his run of form with a win on the Monday open. Drawn on the point at Sycamore 13, he employed corn and pellet to attract carp and barbel to each side of the peg, with samples to 8lbs and 3lbs giving a tally of 107-14-0.

Chestnut peg 23 gave the runner up weight again, this time for John Clarke [Old Mill] who chose a close in approach with pellet and maggot, which brought 94-6-0 of carp to 7lbs to the net. Russ Allen [Oswestry] grabbed third from Chestnut 18 when his 79-6-0 put him just ahead of last Saturdays winner Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent] whose 79-2-0 came from Sycamore 47.

Top weight of the week came from the Larch Pool on Wednesday and was recorded by Colin Wozek [Matrix Total Angling]. He worked hard for the honour with a shallow pellet tactics at corner peg 1, where it took a lot of carp in the 1lb to 4lb range to give a total weight of 178-5-0.

Josh Humphries featured again, claiming second this time with a Willows Pool top weight of 119-10-0, mainly ghosties , taken on shallow pellet from peg 4.

Back on the Larch a level 116-0-0 at peg 6 saw Tony Foster [PI Bold] edge out Dave Matson on 115-11-0 at peg 24.

Ton up bags continued to be the norm when the week-end arrived, and Chestnut peg 23 made its third appearance in the frame. This time, Dave Craggs [Maver Midlands] made the peg a winner by offering caster, up in the water, and with regular forays down the side. Carp to 7lbs and barbel to 3lbs homed in to give figures of 118-10-0.

Next to the winner at peg 21, Steve Owen [Wolves] corn and maggot close, and to the island, for carp to 6lbs, but was a couple of fish short at the end, finishing with 111-9-0.

Shane Rogers was in the prize list again, picking up third thanks to 106-2-0 from Chestnut 13, and Colin Reynolds had another 4th when he scaled 100-15-0 at peg 30.

It took 100lbs to make the frame again on Sunday when Scott Doodson [Preston Innov] led the way from peg 24 on the Larch. Shallow pellet did the trick for Scott, putting 140-4-0 on the scales, which was made up with carp to 6lbs.

Shallow pellet also worked for Andy Kyte [Maver Sonubaits] at Chestnut peg 8. He landed carp to 8lbs and bream to 2lbs totaling 128-7-0. 109-6-0 from Chestnut 15 handed third to Paul Evans [PI Bold] and at Chestnut 26 Gareth Emlyn [Oak Ang Cent] had 102-1-0 for fourth.

Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  23-7-13.

Shane Rogers [Oakengates Ang Cent] had the best of three placings at Boldings Pools this week when he won the Monday open with the top weight of the week, 166-12-0. Shane kept the fish coming to the net by alternating shallow pellet in open water, with maggot fished close to the bank at Chestnut peg 18, and included carp to 9lbs and bream to 3lbs in his heavyweight bag.

Colin Wozek [Matrix Total Angling] ounced out Josh Humphries [ABC] in the battle for second, recording 139-14-0 with a shallow pellet approach at Chestnut peg 8, while Josh had 139-13-0 on similar tactics at Larch peg 24. Also on the Larch was fourth man Mick Jameson [PI Boldings] whose 88-7-0 came from peg 16.

Tony Foster [PI Bold] established a 50lbs winning margin on the Willows Pool on Wednesday when a shallow pellet attack at peg 18 harvested a level 136-0-0, of carp to 5lbs. At peg 19, last Thursdays winner Gareth Emlyn [Oak Ang Cent] included barbel to 3lbs with carp to 5lbs in his catch, but his close in maggot method didn’t match the winners catch rate, leaving Gareth on 86-15-0. Josh Humphries finished third again, his 68-9-0 coming from the other side of the pool at peg 7. Matt Edgerton [Oak Ang Cent] took 4th from peg 17 where he netted 52-7-0.

Thursday saw a close finish on the Chestnut Pool between John Wild [Stafford] and Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent] with exactly one pound separating them.

John was on peg 7 and caught close in on paste, with carp to 9lbs and barbel to 3lbs adding up to 128-2-0.

On the opposite bank, at peg 32, and had his 127-2-0 on pellet and corn. Shane Rogers made a second appearance, taking third with 112-9-0 from peg 1, to pip Gareth Emlyn, who also made the list for the second time thanks to 112-3-0 from peg 30.

Colin Reynolds stepped up a place on Saturday to collect the winners purse after drawing peg 13 on the Sycamore. Pellet and corn fished to each side of the point produced carp to 7lbs with barbel to 3lbs for a total of 132-6-0.

At peg 47 Mitch Davidson [Colmic] fished up in the water with maggot for 102-3-0 of carp to 5lbs for second place. A level 90-0-0 from peg 38 gave Tony Foster his second pick up of the week, and Josh Humphries had his third frame finish by scaling 80-4-0 at peg 8.

Dave Hailey [PI Bold] is going through a purple patch at Boldings and added another win to a growing list on Sunday, when carp in the 1lb to 4lbs bracket kept him busy at peg 22 on the Oak Pool. Shallow pellet had the fish homing in to give a return of 152-5-0.

Over at Oak peg 13 Andy Williams [Colmic Vespe] fished corn and pellet to each side of the peg to pick off carp to 8lbs and bream to 2lbs on his way to 132-11-0 and second spot. Third came from the Ash when Brian Clark [Colmic] netted 122-10-0 at peg 23 and a Larch top score of 112-1-0 gave another placing to Shane Rogers.
