Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT 24/8/10.

Carl Foster (OB Wolves) set a blistering pace at Boldings Pools on the Saturday open to record the first double ‘ton’ of the year and set a new match record, finishing an amazing 130lbs ahead of the rest of the field.

Fishing pellet, paste and corn close in at peg 24 on the Sycamore, Carl found carp into double figures queuing up to attack his bait and he clattered out almost 50lbs an hour to finish with an arm aching 242-8-0.

Dave Matson (Rod & Gun) must be wondering what he has to do finish in first place at Boldings. He has beaten the 100lbs mark at least three times recently, only to find that someone else has had a huge weight to beat him. It happened again on this match, and Dave found his 112-9-0 on maggot and corn from Sycamore 48, completely overshadowed by the new record.

Ralph Johnson (Bilston Ang Cent) followed up a mid-week win with a third on this match, scaling 79-14-0 at Sycamore point peg 8, to pip Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) who had 76-10-0 from Sycamore 33 for 4th.

The Sunday open produced three ton weights for the first three places, led by 118-11-0 from last weeks double winner Eric Bancroft (R&G). He was on Sycamore 42 where carp to 8lbs and bream to 3lbs picked up his close fished corn and pellet to give him the win.

Carl Foster followed up his record breaking exploits form the previous day with a runner up 116-0-0 this time out. He fished pellet in the side at Sycamore 49 for carp to 9lbs.

Shane Rogers (Oakengates Ang Cent) completed the trio of tons with a Chestnut top score of 109-12-0, leaving Chris Holmes (Middle Severn Angling) to pick up 4th with 92-10-0 from Sycamore 32.

Ralph Johnson preceded his third place on Saturday with a big weight winner on Thursday. This time he was on the other point peg on the Sycamore, peg 13, and fished corn to each side to pick off carp to 9lbs on his way to 169-0-0.

Carl foster warmed up for his record setting with 115-1-0 from Chestnut peg 7. Carp to 7lbs and bream to 4lbs responded to his close in pellet and corn approach.

Mick Jameson was another man in the frame again, and Sycamore peg 8 gave third again when Mick handed 105-1-0 to the scales. Fourth went to John Wild (Stafford) at Chestnut 4 where he weighed 89-1-0.

The Wednesday match didn’t foretell hectic sport to come, with the Ash Pool giving competitors a relatively quiet time. Brian Clarke (Maver Midlands) won with 54-3-0, which came to pellet, fished shallow and in the side at peg 7, and consisted of carp in the 1lb to 4lbs range.

Phil Shaw (Lower Hill) scaled 50-15-0 at peg 16, with carp to 5lbs on pellet and corn. Bob Tromans (Fiery Holes) was a couple of pounds behind on 48-9-0 at peg 12 and Steve Woodhall (OBW) finished things off with 43-2-0 at peg 18.

Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT 17/8/10.

Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun) topped a trio of tons with the top weight of the week at Boldings Pools in winning the Monday open on the Willows Pool. Ghost carp to 4lbs responded to a shallow pellet attack at corner peg 13 to give Eric figures of 123-2-0.

Mitchell Davidson (Oakengates Ang Cent) also fished up in the water with pellet at peg 22 to find ghosties and small barbel for 108-12-0 and second, with Phil Shaw (Lower Hill) just behind on 107-9-0 at peg 7.

Gary Morris (OB Wolves) stepped up to the mark on Wednesday  to win from Chestnut peg 17. He had lot of small fish, carp and bream to 2lbs, fishing pellet and corn at 4 metres and in the side to scale 108-15-0.

Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall) found carp to 7lbs, close in with paste at Chestnut 14 to record 99-1-0 in second, Brian Clarke (Maver) added to his win at Springlea with a third here. He had an Oak Pool best of 92-12-0 for third overall and Phil Shaw framed again, filling 4th with 78-14-0 from Chestnut 21.

Eric Bancroft enjoyed his second win of the week on Thursday. This time he drew the Ash pool, and worked pellet, shallow again, to net 78-6-0 of carp to 7lbs.

Jeff Harston (Weston Pools) also found fish with pellet at Ash 3 to scale 67-4-0 for second. Dave Barnard (R&G) was best on the Oak with 61-6-0 for third and Pete Ricketts made the pay out again with 58-9-0 at Oak 5.

Carl Foster (OBW) found the winning touch on Saturday when he finished 22lbs clear of the field. Fishing pellet and paste at 5 metres and close in at Chestnut peg 21, Carl sorted out carp to 8lbs to total 106-11-0.

Steve Roberts (Oak Ang Cent) had carp to 7lbs, fishing corn and pellet to the island and in the margins at Chestnut 26 to finish on 84-2-0 in second. Ralph Johnson (Bilston Ang Cent) had 82-1-0 from Chestnut 17 for third, while after a string of wins, Sean Barber had a pool best of 72-11-0 from the Willows to take 4th.

Gareth Emlyn (Oak Ang Cent) finished 5th on the Saturday match and moved up to top spot on Sunday. Maggot and corn, fished close in at corner peg 4 on the Sycamore put carp to 8lbs in the net for a winning 89-1-0.

Ralph Johnson moved up a place on the previous day, finishing a very close second with 89-2-0. He was peg 42 on the long bank of the Sycamore and caught carp and bream on a pellet and corn combination.

Dave Barnard had another third with his Chestnut best of 84-10-0, and just behind him, on 84-5-0 at Sycamore 13 was Steve Hall (Oswestry)

Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT 10/8/10.

Sean Barber (Maver Sonubaits) continued his classy run results at Boldings Pools with a week-end double, which included yet another top weight of the week.

That came on the Saturday open when Sean drew peg 13 on the Sycamore and hammered out 133-9-0 of carp to 8lbs and bream to 3lbs, using pellet and corn fished to each side of the peg.

Runner up Tony Foster (OB Wolves) used similar tactics to the winner at peg 4 on the Chestnut, where barbel featured alongside carp and bream in a net of 124-0-0.

Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall) is also on a good run at Boldings and having won with a big weight in mid week he picked up third in this match. He was on Chestnut peg 36 and beat the ‘ton’ with 113-10-0. That left Brian Clarke (Maver) to finish off the top four with his 83-10-0 from Chestnut 21.

Sunday was a slower day and Barber found a change of tactics was called for after he drew Chestnut 15. His choice of shallow fished maggot proved to be the right one when he finished just ahead of Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) at Chestnut 36.

Sean had carp to 6lbs in a 78-5-0 total, and Colin had carp to 7lbs with bream to 4lbs on corn and pellet, but fell just short when the scales settled at 77-1-0.

Shane Rogers (Oakengates Ang Cent) was third with 68-5-0 from Sycamore 13, then it was back to the Chestnut where peg 21 gave fourth again, this time for Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun) on 61-12-0.

Brothers Brian and Martin Travis (Total Angling) took the top two places on the Monday open at Boldings, Brian running out a comfortable winner when he scaled 92-2-0 at Oak peg 29. Pellet and maggot, fished shallow and in the edge put carp to 7lbs in Brian’s net.

Martin fished corn and pellet to each side of Oak 8 for carp to 5lbs, which gave him 67-14-0 for second. One fish behind Martin was Carl Foster (OBW) on 62-13-0 at Oak 26 and less than a pound behind Carl was Glen Brown (Oakengates Ang Cent) on 61-14-0 at Oak 1.

Matt Stobbs (Oak Ang Cent) found his form on Wednesday when his winning net was the only frame weight to come from the Middle Pool. Matt put 93-10-0 on the scales at peg 1, which was too good for the Hawthorn best of 79-6-0 by Carl Foster who improved on his third place on Monday to take second this time out. Only 5 ounces behind Carl was Danny Boden (Telford) on 79-1-0 at Hawthorn 3, and another Hawthorn weight, 69-5-0 gave Bob Tromans (Fiery Holes) fourth.

Pete Ricketts was only three ounces off the weeks best weight when he won the Thursday open with 133-6-0. His choice of a paste approach was spot on for carp to 9lbs and bream to 3lbs at Chestnut peg 7.

Mick Keene added a runner up spot to his hat trick of Weston wins, and had the top catch on the Sycamore Pool with 101-14-0. Dave Barnard (R&G) was a close third on 101-3-0 at Chestnut 1 and Tony Foster (OBW) was just behind him on 99-12-0 at Chestnut 30.
