Boldings Report 24/6/09

Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) made it two Monday wins on the trot at Boldings Pools by edging 4lbs clear of Dave Barnard (Rod & Gun) at this weeks Monday match.

Pegged on Oak 11, Colin opted for a close in approach with corn and pellet to attract carp to 6lbs, which gave him a return of 51-3-0 at the finish.

‘Barney’ was on peg 22 and alternated between the 5 metre line and close to the bank with pellet to net 47-1-0 for second. Jack Hailey (OB Wolves) completed a full set of top three places in three weeks when he took third this time, weighing in 41-10-0 at peg 8, with Rod Arnold (Cannock) completing the frame with 36-3-0 at peg 29.

The Hawthorn, Stock and Middle pools were used on Wednesday and peg 3 on the Hawthorn showed its form again by providing Karl Haywood (Sedgley Lions) with a 96-6-0 winner, which came to pellet at 5 metres and featured carp to 7lbs.

Ralph Johnson (Bilston Ang Cent) fished caster across to the far bank at Stock peg 1, and also picked fish up from close in to total 86-2-0 in second. 74-8-0 from corner peg 7 on the Hawthorn saw Martyn Travis (MSTA) pick up third, and Bob Tromans (Fiery Holes) had 70-8-0 from opposite the winner for 4th.

Thursday saw the top catch of the week go onto the scales at Sycamore peg 24 when Tony Foster (OBW) cruised to victory with 121-7-0. Pellet and corn at 4metres and close were the successful tactics for Tony, who had carp to 9lbs in his catch.

Similar tactics were used by Mel Kitson (R&G) over at corner peg 30 on the Sycamore, where carp to 7lbs and bream to 4lbs added up to 76-3-0 for second place. Only 5 ounces behind Mel was Gary Morris (OBW) who had a Chestnut best of 75-14-0 at peg 7, and close behind him, Ralph Johnson framed again with 75-4-0 at Chestnut 23.

On Saturday Nige Clarke (Fox RAF) fished to the island, and close in at peg 28 on the Chestnut to win with 65-11-0 of carp to 6lbs. Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) had the first of two week-end frame places when he scaled 52-6-0 with a mix of carp and bream at Chestnut 32, Pete Plant (Maver) was one fish behind on 50-12-0 at Chestnut 4 and George Reynolds (Kings) kept things tight in the frame with 49-15-0 at Chestnut 30.

Weights were back up again on Saturday when the Chestnut dominated the frame again. David Emlyn (Oak Ang Cent) was top man thanks to 95-2-0 from peg 7, where he fished corn and pellet to each side of the peg for carp to 7lbs.

Almost opposite Dave, at peg 35, Keith Miller (New Willenhall) almost kept pace with him, finishing on 89-9-0, taken on pellet at 5 metres and in the margins. Mick Jameson collected third this time with 72-7-0 at peg 38, which just gave him the edge over Nick Powell (OBW) on 72-1-0 at peg 21.

Best on the Oak was Gary Morris OBW) who was also 5th overall with his 70-7-0 at Oak 31.

Gary Morris converted his Saturday second to a Sunday first when he drew peg 8 on the point on the Sycamore the following day. Carp to double figures and bream to 3lbs showed a taste for his corn and pellet mixture, fished at 4 metres, and to each side of the point, to give figures of 84-13-0.

At peg 21 on the Chestnut Dave Craggs (OBW) fished maggot to the island to tempt carp to 7lbs to finish second on 77-4-0. Lee Smith (Wolverhampton) scaled 76-12-0 at chestnut 16 for third and Dave Matson (R&G) had an Ash best of 73-2-0 in 4th.

Martin Davenport (Dorset Pools) kicked off the mid week matches with a narrow victory on Monday, when he finished ahead of a trio of Rod & Gun men. Martin fished pellet and corn close in at peg 7 on the Chestnut to tempt 61-13-0 of carp to 7lbs, to pip the first of the Rod & Gun men, Jack Hailey, to top spot. Jack was over on peg 30 on the Chestnut, and had a similar catch to the winner, to weigh 60-7-0.

Only two ounces behind jack was Dave Barnard with a Sycamore best of 60-5-0, with Mick Williams getting fourth with 50-7-0, also from the Sycamore.

Carp from 1lb to 5lbs, caught on corn, close in at peg 5 on the Ash, added up to 56-11-0 to give Phil Foster (OBW) a win on Wednesday. Second also came from the ash when Frank Mountford (Wolverhampton) put 48-15-0 on the scales at peg 23, then it was over to the Hawthorn for third man Tim Probert (OBW) who was one fish short of 2nd on 47-0-0 at peg 15. Ash peg 9 was in the frame again when Phil Shaw (Lower Hill) had 42-12-0 for 4th.

Thursday saw another close frame, with the outcome of the match in doubt right up to the final whistle. When the end came, Harry Colley (OBW) had squeezed ahead by just under a pound to win with 56-7-0. He was on peg 22 on the Oak Pool and offered meat and pellet at 6 metres, for carp to 5lbs.

At Chestnut peg 4 Mick Jameson had slightly bigger fish, with carp to 6lbs coming to his pellet feed and hookbait, fished at 5 metres, and close in, but he needed one more fish at the finish, ending the day on 55-8-0.
